Galaxy A55 Design & Build

Design

First and foremost, you get the design features at first glance, which comes with pretty different factors from last year’s Galaxy A54. Which is of course the new sculptured shaped design beside the power and volume buttons, looks quite nice compared to last year’s Galaxy A54.

You also get a brushed shiny finish from the upgraded aluminum material that looks quite premium on hand.

Colors

As for colors, you get a Iceblue which is a sort of light sky blue, a Lilac which is a pink sort of color, a lemon colored and a Navy color.

Build

Durability is one of the core features of the product, as you will face all the day to day obstacles for the device, like drops and scratches.

There’s a protective glass which is more durable from last year’s model with the Gorilla Glass victus at the front along with a aluminum frame that makes it greater durable than last year’s Galaxy A54 which had plastic framing.

You also get a similar IP67 water resistance, which will give you up to 1 meter of submerge in water for 30 minutes at peak no more, so make sure you don’t run around with water after that time period.

  • 6.6’’ Super AMOLED (HDR10+)
  • 120Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1000 Peak Brightness
  • Gorilla Glass Victus+

Galaxy A55 Display

Moving on to the display section, you get a larger display now from last year’s model, which is the 6.6-inch Super AMOLED panel that looks quite great while interacting with.

Due to the larger display Samsung also had to minimize the bezel, which is a good choice they made that makes content viewing a little better. Although the bezel is still there, unlike the flagship S24 which has a minimum bezel for the display.

There’s also HDR10+ with a 120Hz fast refresh rate, now that makes your streaming and gaming quite colorful and rich with vibrant colors. Faster refresh rate makes it easy to scrolling and gaming smoothly. While viewing content or reading a pdf in direct sunlight the display goes bright enough for around 1000 nits.

For protecting the glass and overall phone, you get a Gorilla Glass Victus+, which is pretty good to avoid any smudges or sudden scratches. There’s also a fingerprint scanner on the display for protecting your device, now it’s just like last year with “Optical Sensor” not like flagship Galaxy S24 which has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

5. Samsung Galaxy A55 5G: Camera

  • Tri-Camera Lenses (50MP+12MP+5MP)
  • 32MP Front Camera
  • 4K @30fps Recording | 4K Front

Galaxy A55 Camera

Main Camera (Wide)

As for the camera qualities, you get pretty good results for daylight photography from the main camera of the Galaxy A55 5G, which is a 50 megapixel sensor with OIS.

Now portraits shows quite good in the natural lighting, while low-light images are appreciable. You do have digital zoom for up to 10x, although after 2x zoom, things get pretty noisy the more you go further. It’s better to shoot up to 2x or 3x zoom to not lose any sharpness with your photos.

Ultrawide

Similar lens like before, with 12 megapixel ultrawide, that shows greater photos during daylight in the further wide lens. You get around 123-degree field of viewing, which lets you capture group photos better.

Macro

Shooting close-up objects like coins and flowers are as usual, with the 5MP camera sensor you get quite sharp results.

Recording

Recording includes 4K recording for both front and rear camera lens, all the rear camera is capable of shooting at this resolution.

Front

Selfie camera comes with a 32 megapixel sensor with similar 4K recording capabilities like the rear lens does. The aperture and resolution is similar to last year’s Galaxy A54, with f/2.2.

There’s a useful tone selection for the users who love having different effects on their photos, which lets you choose warm or natural tones. You can also make your photos have bokeh or blur effects, if you want to edit further of your selfies.

6. Samsung Galaxy A55 5G: Performance

  • Exenos 1480 (4nm)
  • Octa-core (2.75 GHz)
  • Up To 12GB RAM

Galaxy A55 Performance

Here comes the most vital section of a smartphone, which is none other than the performance section where we will discuss further about the chipset, ram, processing power, gaming performance and more.

Chipset & Storage

For starters, you get a Exynos 1480 chipset with 4nm Octa-core processor and effortlessly multi-task, game, and stream content in platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Day to day multi tasking is easier as well with the Octa-core processing power that gives you up to 2.75GHz performance.

Now this is around 15% improvement from last year’s Exynos 1380 which had 2.4GHz processing power. After testing the benchmark scores, you get around 700K+ antutu scores, which is really impressive from last year’s 500K score.

Gaming

As for the gaming portion, you get quite good results while playing casual games, although Galaxy A55 struggles with high fps for heavy games. Thanks to the new GPU in the house, which is the Xclipse 530, that delivers appreciable gaming performance while playing games like Subway Surfers, Mini Militia and Special Forces Group 2.

Do remember, while playing heavy games like the new Call of Duty: Mobile or PUBG Mobile, the fps during gameplay showed for around 35 to 45 fps. That is a little low compared to other mid-range devices like the OnePlus 10 Pro or even the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, which gives you about 50 to 60 fps.

Multimedia

In terms of multimedia section, you get super HDR video support along with HDR10+ content viewing capability. Now watching movies or tv-shows directly from your Galaxy A55 looks pretty good.

There’s also stereo speakers and up to UHD 4K video support, which gives you better audio and video listening while you watch your favorite shows or movies. You will miss the AKG tuning here though, as this is only available in flagships like the mighty Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Connectivity

At the connectivity section you get one of the stable Wi-Fi features with wi-fi 6 and dual band. Now for the bluetooth connectivity, there’s the version 5.3, making your earbuds or wireless headphone activity quite smoother.

7. Samsung Galaxy A55 5G: Software & UI

  • Android 14 | One UI 6.1

Galaxy A55 Software & UI

Right out of the box Galaxy A55 5G comes with One UI 6 based on Android 14, now it looks and feels pretty smooth to use with the usual interface. And Samsung knows best with the UI, the rounded icons and customizable themes all look just fine to use.

As for the software updates, you get pretty good numbers right here, there’s a four year software update which is the OS update of your device, and around five years of security updates from Samsung. Now that’s really appreciable as other brands like Google or Apple are really catching up with the software updates that user’s need.

The Knox vault security feature is there as well, designed to keep your sensitive information safe. And it’s one of the best security features Samsung provides with their new devices, that helps you protect your sensitive data.

8. Samsung Galaxy A55 5G: Battery Life

  • 5000mAh Battery
  • 25W Wired

Galaxy A55 Battery

Moving on to the last part, we have the battery test information. As like all the other mid-range devices you also get a 5000mAh battery. You get a decent amount of battery, like watching the movie Tenet for about 1 hour when it was 100%, the battery went down to 47% from a full charge.

Mostly your battery consumes through the higher display technology that comes with Galaxy A55, like when you watch the HDR10+ contents, which pretty much consumes most charge along with the faster refresh rate and Super AMOLED display viewing also thirsty for battery.

Charging is quite good with the 25-Watt charger capability, you get around 50% charge for about 30-40 minutes of charging from the adapter. Which is still a lot more time, compared to other mid-range devices like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro or the Realme 12 Pro+ which offers higher wattage adapters like 67W. And as there’s no charger in the box. So do remember to have one already or keep your older charger.

10. Verdict

Long story short, the Galaxy A55 5G from Samsung this year gave you pretty good results from all aspects. In terms of newer design and build quality there’s the new aluminum build and curved framing.

You do get upgraded results in performance, that is pretty comparable from last year’s Galaxy A54. While the camera and battery qualities remains no change from last year, as you are still stuck with the triple camera lens and a 25W charging for that 5000mAh battery.

Multimedia viewing on that large Super AMOLED and HDR10+ screen is really fantastic when you watch greater contents. Day to day productivity and social media browsing is just fine as usual.

Although if you are a heavy gamer, then the Galaxy A55 won’t be as ideal as you are expecting it would be, as during the game test this device struggled with higher fps gaming. Though you can do casual gaming for day to day.

Get the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G, if

  • You really need a Galaxy midrange design with newer design and aluminum frame;
  • You want to day to day productivity, casual gaming and satisfied with minimum fps;
  • You need a triple camera sensor with 4K recording for both front and back camera.
