iPhone 17 VS iPhone Air

iPhone 17 VS iPhone Air: Base Performance VS Flagship Power

This year, Apple introduced four new iPhones and each one is specifically designed for particular users. Among the 4 devices, iPhone 17, which is the base model of 17-series got some pretty good upgrades compared to last year’s base model.

There was also another device which raised some eyebrows, and it’s none other than the iPhone Air, skipping the “Plus” model. So what’s Apple got to offer with their new “Air” and how it performs against the base model iPhone 17 in terms of design, display, performance, camera and so on. That’s why in today’s blog I will be comparing the iPhone 17 against the iPhone Air. Without waiting any longer, let’s jump right in:

First of all, let’s take a look at both the device’s design and build quality. And to be honest, you will not see any dramatic changes from last year’s iPhone 16 to this year’s iPhone 17. In front of the Air and the iPhone 17 looks exactly like the previous year’s iPhone with slightly improved height and weight. In terms of build quality, the 17 has aluminum frame, glass back and IP68 water resistance, making it lightweight and safe from splashes. There’s also new colors, including black, white, mist blue, sage and lavender.

On the other hand, the newly designed Air model comes with jaw-dropping material choices from Apple. At first you get titanium build quality, making it durable and lightweight at the same. And Apple made significant changes for the internal body to move all the major parts on top inside the “camera plateau” to make the device very thin at just 5.6mm slim.

There’s also useful ceramic shield glass back for the rear on iPhone Air, which makes it even tougher compared to regular iPhone 17. One thing you will notice, there’s no typical SIM slot here, as Apple made it clear during the event, you will get eSIM only for the iPhone Air. As for colors, there’s four options, Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold and lastly Sky Blue.

Which gives you 120Hz high refresh rate support, meaning you will get better scrolling and browsing smoothness. In terms of screen size, you get a 6.3-inch panel which is slightly smaller compared to iPhone Air. Viewing angle is great too for outdoors, as there’s up to 3000 nits of peak brightness. One thing you wouldn’t have is the anti-reflective coating for reducing glare and reflections, which is only available for Air and Pro models.

In comparison, the Air has a slightly larger display, for about .2-inches more compared to iPhone 17 with 6.5-inch screen size, which gives you greater viewing. There is also all the basic display features like the iPhone 17 does but a bit more. As you get Dolby Vision and anti-reflective coating to give you better anti-reflection and reduced glare.
